Context · Problem

Entering the building-management (BMS) market as a latecomer against established players, we needed a clear differentiator that shows real spaces accurately.

A latecomer

Established solutions already own the building-management market, so a feature list alone can't differentiate. We needed a space-first solution that shows the building exactly as it is and lets you manage it right there.

Operations at scale

Building operators manage many floors, spaces and devices at once.

Mixed devices

B2B IoT and B2C (SmartThings) devices, robots, ships and vehicles all have to be handled in one place.

Role · Approach

Redesigning a spatial experience proven in B2C for B2B operations

Role: UI/UX design lead (including the Interactive View concept); exhibition concept and operation

  1. 01

    On board from the start

Joined SmartThings Pro from its early days and set the direction of extending the B2C Map View experience to B2B.

  2. 02

    Built for operators

Added editing and filtering to fit the efficiency needs of large-building operators.

  3. 03

    Space as a platform

Designed the 3D map as a shared space that carries not only IoT devices but robots, ships, vehicles and occupancy data.

  4. 04

    Showing value at exhibitions

Designed and ran the CES 2025 booth concept and exhibition screens to show the differentiator live.

Key Design · IoT

From 2D plan to 3D map — manage right on the space

  1. 1

    2D plan → 3D map, automatically

AI analyzes a building's 2D plan and converts it into a 3D map. Operators see devices on the real layout, not in a list.

  2. 2

B2B and B2C devices in one space

Places and manages B2B IoT and B2C (SmartThings) devices on the same 3D map, with editing and filtering for large buildings.

  3. 3

    Occupancy heat map

Heat-map sensors (presence) and CCTV (crowd levels) paint an occupancy heat map on the 3D map, applied to energy saving.

  4. 4

    Node-RED-based B2B automation

A Node-RED-style tool that connects devices, conditions and actions with lines, so complex B2B automation can be built visually.

Key Design · Robots

Robots on the same 3D map

  1. 1

    Commercial robots in real time

Integrated with Big Wave Robotics to show the setup, movement and status of delivery, guide and cleaning robots on the 3D map in real time.

  2. 2

    Showcased at AW 2025

At AW 2025 (2025.03.12–14, COEX, Seoul), Big Wave Robotics showed integrated robot management with SmartThings Pro through its SOLlink enterprise API.

  3. 3

    No separate system needed

Several robots can be managed together in the SmartThings Pro spatial view without a separate control system. Quadruped robots are planned next.

Key Design · Ships

Beyond buildings — ships at sea

  1. 1

    With Samsung Heavy Industries

Worked with Samsung Heavy Industries to manage the location and operation of ships sailing worldwide on one screen.

  2. 2

    The ship as a space

Extended the spatial view from buildings to ships, showing and controlling device status and energy by ship zone.

  3. 3

    CES 2025 ship booth

Led the concept and design of the CES 2025 SmartThings Pro and ship booths, and ran them on site.

Key Design · Vehicles

  1. 1

    Applied to the Kia PV5

Extended the SmartThings Pro spatial view to the Kia PV5 PBV, showing and controlling devices on the vehicle's interior layout.

  2. 2

    Store and vehicle as one

Business customers link their vehicle with store and workplace devices through automation routines, managing the store remotely even while driving.

  3. 3

    Samsung–Kia mobility partnership

The Samsung–Kia partnership to extend SmartThings Pro into mobility was announced at Kia EV Day (2025.02.24, Tarragona, Spain).
